Description
One of the oldest mosques in Hyderabad and in India, Mecca Masjid lies just 200 yards to the southwest of the Charminar. The mosque is named after the significant religious destination of Islam- Mecca. The bricks of the central arch of this magnificent building were brought from the holy city of Mecca.
The Masjid was the centre point of the old Hyderabad city planned by Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah. Built during the reign of 5th ruler of Qutub Shahi dynasty, Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah, the construction continued for years and the Qutub Shahi family could never complete the construction. Mughal leader Aurangzeb finished the construction in 17th century.
